Written by ASPOR
This study is based on the data gathered by ASPOR from 4900 individuals from 20 cities of 9 counties, since April 2000 until now. The above mentioned individuals have had their bone mineral density measured by ASPOR`s ALOKA device (ultrasound, portable osteodensitometer). The scanning actions were organized by ASPOR and called „mobile clinics”. All individuals completed a questionnaire, which showed that:80% of the investigated women, aged 50-75, had minimum one osteoporosis risk factor18% proved to have 2 risk factors28% of the investigated women, aged 40-75 had BMD values below -1.5, Not taking into consideration the calcitonin  (administrated at random), only 5% of the above mentioned women underwent an antiresorbtiv treatment. It must be underlined that these individuals were investigated at random, and they were not hospitalized persons. Based on the information received from the 900 members of our society, beyond  epidemiological statistics, we can draw some conclusions linked to the osteoporosis management in the province:Awareness – education in patients regarding prevention methods (lifestyle, diet, smoking, alcohol, medication intake) are totally neglected.GPs’ knowledge in osteoporosis is reduced, and it’s generally limited to the prescribtion of antiresorbtiv treatment. They are not encouraged at all in any fractures prevention evaluation.
